COLLEGE STATION - The UT Arlington women's tennis team wrapped up the fall slate in the 2018 ITA Texas Regional hosted by Texas A&M over the weekend. 

The Mavericks saw several successes throughout the draw, but saw the end of the tournament season. UTA will resume action in the spring when team play begins in February.

"It was a tough weekend for us against some of the best in the region," UTA coach Diego Benitez said. "We had a lot of positives in this draw and we have some things to build on after a great tournament season the last few months. I am looking forward to how we build on this for the spring." 

Almudena Boza and Nanaka Takeuchi were the lone Mavs to advance in the main draw through the first round of action. Boza picked up two wins as she advanced over Prairie View A&M's Claudia Medina (6-1, 6-0) and the No. 19 seed Pirya Niezgoda of Rice (6-2, 3-6, 1-0). Boza fell in a tough match to No. 14 Katie Poluta in a 7-5, 6-1 decision. Takeuchi eliminated Prarie View A&M's Jimena Castellanos (6-2, 6-0) before falling to Rice's Anna Bowtell (6-3, 6-3). 

In the consolation bracket, several UTA players picked up wins before the team returned back to Arlington. Carla Pons defeated UIW's Jelena Dordan (7-5, 3-6, 1-0), while Lucia Natal won 6-1, 6-2 over UTSA's Charleen Tiwari. Momoka Horiguchi earned a victory over in-state rival Andrea Fuchs of Texas State in a 6-2, 6-1 win and then topped Michelle Walker from UTRGV 6-4, 6-1. UTA did not compete in the third round of the consolation.
