STATESBORO, Ga. – After trailing 2-1 in the match, UT Arlington volleyball posted a pair of hard-fought set victories to defeat Georgia Southern in five sets, 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9), on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to10-7 overall and 4-3 in Sun Belt action, while the Eagles fall to 7-12 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.

Four UTA players finished with double-digit kills in the win over Georgia Southern, led by a career-high 22 kills from Kylie Jedlicka. Jedlicka also hit .250 and added 11 digs to record her second double-double of the season. Zhanelle Geathers hit .346 with 14 kills, four digs and three blocks. Brooke Townsend finished with 11 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Madison Hill registered 10 kills (.316 hitting percentage), six digs and a match-high eight blocks. Alex Janak racked up 30 digs and Kylee Kapp tallied her second career double-double with 22 assists and 15 digs.

Leading 1-0 after taking the first set (25-21), the Mavericks dropped sets two (23-25) and three (20-25) to fall behind Georgia Southern. Down 2-1 in the match and 21-20 in the fourth set, the Mavs used a 5-1 run, including a pair of Townsend kills, to cap the frame and force a fifth set.

Leading the Eagles 8-7 halfway through the fifth set, UTA scored the next five points, highlighted by two kills from Jedlicka, to take a 13-7 advantage. The Mavs would go on to hold off Georgia Southern to secure their 10th win of the season.

The Mavericks will return to the College Park Center next weekend for a pair of Sun Belt contests. UTA will welcome Coastal Carolina to Arlington on Oct. 12 (6:30 p.m.), followed by a 6:30 p.m. contest against Appalachian State on Oct. 13.
