BSB: Mavs Travel to Face TCU on Tuesday

ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA will conclude a season-long, six-game road trip on Tuesday, with a matchup at TCU, with first pitch at Lupton Stadium slated for 6:30 p.m. CT. The Mavs will then start a home swing with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch on Sunday vs. No. 26 Sam Houston State at Clay Gould Ballpark.

UTA (15-15, 7-5 Sun Belt) has made road trips to Abilene, Nacogdoches and Lafayette, La., during its road swing, which will conclude in Fort Worth on Tuesday night. The Mavs are 2-3 on the road trip, winning a game at ACU and at Louisiana, falling in a pair at the Ragin' Cajuns and in a midweek tilt at Stephen F. Austin. UTA is coming off a thrilling 4-2 win at Louisiana on Sunday evening to wrap up a three-game set at the Ragin Cajuns, marking UTA's first win in Lafayette since 1990.

The matchup with the Horned Frogs marks the second of the three-game series, which opened with a 14-1 TCU win on March 1 at Lupton Stadium.

The Mavs will send redshirt freshman Cody Wernli (0-0, 3.12 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday for his fourth career start in his seventh outing. TCU will counter with freshman lefty Russell Smith (1-2, 4.40 ERA), who has made five starts to open his career, fanning 13 and walking eight in 14.1 innings. Wernli has worked 8.2 innings, allowing seven hits and five walks, striking out seven.

In the matchup on Wednesday vs. Sam Houston State, the Mavs will send junior Reid Petty (0-1, 13.50 ERA) to the mound for his second start of the year after the 6-foot-6 righty worked 1.1 innings in his season debut on Wednesday at SFA.

The Mavs have been led at the plate by senior Omar Salinas, who has hit .317 with a homer and 12 RBI. Senior Christian Hollie has hit .308 with two homers and 14 RBI, sophomore Zac Cook has batted .295 with a homer and 16 RBI, freshman David Renning has hit .282 with two homers and four RBI and junior catcher Will Olson has hit five homers with 18 RBI with a .273 average. Junior Noah Vaughan has cranked a team-high seven homers and hit .265, with sophomore Josh Minjarez hitting .255 with two homers and 14 RBI.

In relief, freshman David Moffat (3-5, 3.08 ERA), junior Logan Austin (2-0, 3.38 ERA), senior Daniel James (1-3, 4.50 ERA), senior Ryan Buss (1-1, 3.44 ERA) and junior Andrew Gross (1-0, 4.50 ERA) have each appeared in at least 10 games.
