Madison Hill recorded her 1,000th career kill as the UTA volleyball team picked up a huge 3-2 upset over Sun Belt East Division leader Coastal Carolina on Sunday at The HTC Center.
With the win, UTA improves to 13-10 overall and 5-6 in conference, while the Chanticleers fall to 8-3 in league play and 18-4 overall.
Kylie Jedlicka led the Mavs with 17 kills. She also added 10 digs to record a double-double. Hill, who needed one kill to hit the 1,000 career kill mark, finished the afternoon with 15 kills, a .462 hitting percentage and three blocks.
Bre Walp added 12 kills and six blocks, while
Madelyn St. Germain tallied a team-high 18 digs.
Jessica Stancliff registered her third career double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs.

"This was a great team win over a very talented Coastal Carolina team," head coach
J.T. Wenger said. "Our passing was stellar the whole match and our setters ran a strategic offense. Offensively, our middles and pins capitalized their opportunities. Defensively, we made some great plays that helped us convert a bunch of points in transition. I'm very proud of the effort and confidence that we showed today."
Trailing 13-8 in the opening set, the Mavs used a 5-0 run to take a 14-13 lead. CCU bounced back and held off the Mavs to take the first set 25-23. Â
UTA tied the match after taking the second set 25-20. With the match tied at 16-16, UTA closed the set on a 9-4 run to pick up the win.
After Coastal too the third set 25-20, UTA fought hard to take the fourth and force a fifth set. The Mavs dominated the set, jumping out to a 12-7 lead and never looking back and taking the 25-18 win. Jedlicka and Walp had five kills each in the set fourth-set win.
In the fifth and final set, UTA was the first team to eight before switching sides. The Mavs kept the momentum after the change as they scored seven of the last 12 points for the match victory. The Mavericks went on to win the set 15-11 and the match (3-2). UTA hit .400 in the final frame, while holding CCU to a .048 hitting percentage. Hill had four of the team's eight kills in the set. UTA went on to win 15-11 and held CCU to a .048 hitting percentage while hitting .400 hitting for themselves.
The Mavericks return to action next weekend as they travel to Louisiana for a pair of SBC matches. UTA will face Louisiana on Friday, Nov. 1 (6:30 p.m.) and ULM on Sunday, Nov. 3 (12:00 p.m.).
