SEATTLE, Wash. – UTA baseball scored three times in the top of the eighth, to claim a 6-5 win over Seattle in game-two of their three-game series.
UTA tagged SU starting pitcher Alex Jemal for three straight hits to open the game and took a quick 2-0 lead. The Mavericks would then be held scoreless for the next four innings.
Tied at 3-3 in the seventh, Seattle got back-to-back RBI-singles to go up 5-3. UTA responded in a big way in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs on three hits.
Andrew Miller's 2-run homer tied things up at 5-5 and the Mavericks would take advantage on the next batter as
Josh Minjarez doubled down the left field line to bring Childs across home plate for the go-ahead run.
Ka'ikepono Anderson picked up the win and improved to 3-1 on the season, while
Andrew Gross picked up his second consecutive save after tossing an inning of no-hit ball to sit Seattle down in the bottom of the ninth. The Redhawks got a pair of runners on base in the final frame, but could not complete the comeback
The two teams wrap up the three-game set on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bannerwood Park.
