ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington men's golf team has strengthened its roster with the addition of Iceland native Daniel Steinarsson, head coach
Casey Devoll has announced.
Â
An incoming freshman, Steinarsson will bolster a UTA program which returns its entire team lineup from last year. This past season, Steinarsson carried an average score of 72.6. He ranks 13th on the Icelandic Men's Tour and carries an official World Amateur Golf Ranking in the mid-2000s.
Â
In addition to those highlights, Steinarsson also boasts the following noteworthy achievements thus far in his career:

In addition to his tournament play in Iceland and throughout Europe, Steinarsson has played in several amateur events in the United States, including the Men's Orlando International Amateur in December of 2019 which was won by now-teammate
Kyle Cox at 15-under par (65-68-66: 199). Steinarsson made the cut after opening with a 68 en route to the 9th-best finish in the field by an international.
Â
It was one of those U.S.-based tournaments in which Devoll first had the chance to see Steinarsson play in person in Arizona.
Â
"Daniel is going to be a great asset to the team," Devoll stated. "He's not only proved that he can win, but he's not afraid to shoot some low scores. His presence will also bring some more competition within the team, which will be good for everyone. Adam (Babb; Assistant Coach) and I are excited about this upcoming year. With the addition of Daniel along with nine returners, we truly believe this group is going to do something special."
Â
In addition to his golfing acumen, Steinarsson has also achieved at an extremely high level on the badminton court, claiming National Junior Badminton Player of the Year honors in 2017 and advancing to the European Junior Championships.
Â
Steinarsson's mother, Carola Frank, played tennis at Auburn University Montgomery, twice being named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete All-American – including in 1992 when she was a member of AUM's NAIA National Championship.
Â
The Mavs – who climbed as high as #45 in the Golfstat Rankings last fall – are coming off an abbreviated 2019-20 campaign in which they secured the lowest scoring average relative to par in program history at +3.43, besting the previous number of +4.18 in 2008-09. UTA's 291.43 scoring average in 21 rounds was the 2nd-best in single-season program history, finishing just behind the 2008-09 squad's record of 291.09.

THE NEW HOME OF UTA GOLF: Texas Rangers Golf Club
The recently-opened state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of the UT Arlington's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course at Brown Boulevard and Collins Street, just a few miles north of UTA's campus. The Home of UTA Golf was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design. It features an expansive 23-acre practice area, and a new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse – set to open in early 2020 – will feature a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
