Murray Leads Mavs On Final Day Of HBU Husky Invitational

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Madigan Murray recorded a final-round 73 to lead the UT Arlington women's golf team on the last day of Houston Baptist's Husky Invitational at Riverbend Country Club on Tuesday.

Murray posted her second top-20 finish of the season as the senior tied for 19th overall with a three-round 226 total (+10) to finish as UTA's low member. Competing as an individual, Romina Gonzalez was just a few shots back of Murray with a 54-hole 229 (+13) to tie for 25th.

As a team, the Mavs moved up one position on the leaderboard from their overnight position and finished the event in 9th place following a final-round 311 as part of a 936 (+72) score.

INSIDE THE SCORES
  • Murray began her round on the par-3 14th and closed her day with back-to-back birdies on the par-5 12th and par-4 13th to post her season-low round.
  • Gonzalez made nothing worse than bogey and rolled in birdies on the par-4 15th and par-4 2nd holes.
  • Tan was plagued by four double bogeys, but played the par-3 holes on Tuesday at level par – tied for the 6th-best score of anyone in the 60-player field.
  • Garber's three birdies were tied for the most of any player in the final round, but she couldn't overcome three double bogeys. One of those birdies came on the par-5 1st – one of only five birdies on that hole all day.
  • Howard made one of just four birdies by the field on the par-3 7th, but unfortunately that would be her only sub-par hole of the round.
  • Tran rolled in a pair of birdies on the par-4 16th and 2nd holes; her and Murray were responsible for two of the five birdies on the 16th on Tuesday.
THIS AND THAT
  • As a team, UTA's 10 birdies in the final round were tied for the 3rd-most in the field; the Mavs had 27 over the three rounds – tied for the 4th-most of any team.
  • Sam Houston won the 11-team event with an 867 (+3) total – 15 shots clear of Arkansas State and 28 strokes ahead of 3rd-place HBU.
NEXT ON THE TEE
The Mavs will head to Hunstville to tee it up in Sam Houston's Bearkat Invitational Mar. 29-30.
