KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The UT Arlington women's golf team completed its spring-opening Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday with a final-round 317 at Cougar Point Golf Course.
Â
Facing the largest field of any collegiate tournament in the country, the Mavericks finished the three-round event in sole possession of 24th place (930, +66) out of 41 teams.
Â
Kate Tran – who finished T-3 in this tournament last year – again paced UTA as she signed for a final-round 77 as part of a 229 (+13) 54-hole score to tie for 51st in the field of 210.
Â
UTA received the worst of the two-course draw, playing statistically the much harder course each of the first two rounds, but still managed to reside inside the top-19 teams after 36 holes to compete in the championship flight on Tuesday.

INSIDE THE SCORES
- Tran had 13 pars in her final round, but unfortunately had a pair of double bogeys and two bogeys with a lone birdie coming on the par-5 11th. That baker's dozen of pars propelled the senior to 37 for the week, tied for the 16th-most in the field.
Â
- Tan rolled in a team-high-tying three birdies on the day, but unfortunately also made three double bogeys or worse. The junior finished the week among the best in the field in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.69 (-4) – tied for the 6th-best mark in the field.
Â
- Gonzalez also recorded three birdies for the round, including ending her tournament with one on the par-4 18th. However, she also was derailed by a trio of double bogeys.
Â
- Combined, Murray and Garber had just two double bogeys or worse, but also could muster just one birdie.
THIS AND THAT
- UTA made eight total birdies in the final round after converting just four in the 2nd round on the same course.
Â
- After making five double bogeys or worse in the 1st round, UTA only had one such score in the 2nd round on Monday but unfortunately registered 11 in the final round.
Â
- Despite drastically-different scoring averages all three rounds between the Oak Point and Cougar Point courses, the final averages were nearly exactly the same on the two layouts: 78.66 at Cougar Point and 78.63 at Oak Point.
NEXT ON THE TEE
The Mavs will head to Sugar Land to compete in Houston Baptist's Husky Invitational from Riverbend Country Club Mar. 15-16.
