Steinarsson Leads UTA Men’s Golfers On Monday

DENTON – Daniel Steinarsson is tied for 9th in the field at -2 and leads six UT Arlington men's golfers who are competing as individuals following the opening two rounds at Dallas Baptist's Patriot Classic from Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch on Monday.

Freshman Steinarsson posted rounds of 1-over 73 and 2-under 69 and resides just five shots back of the overnight lead, which will be held by Texas Tech's James Roller and Oklahoma Christian's Mateo Pulcini.

UTA INDIVIDUAL STANDINGS/SCORES

T-27) Zach Cole: 73-74: 147 (+3)
T-41) Alberto Menacho: 76-73: 149 (+5)

T-61) Jacob Massengale: 79-73: 152 (+8)

THIS AND THAT
  • The 69 for Steinarsson is a career low. He made nothing worse than a bogey in his 1st round, and he played the final four holes of his 2nd round in 4-under par, including an eagle on the par-5 8th. The Icelander played the par-5 holes in 5-under (4.38) for the two rounds – tied for the 4th-best in the field.

  • Jones led the Mavs with eight birdies over the two rounds; Cole and Steinarsson both rolled in seven.

  • Aside from a double and a triple, Cole was relatively consistent both rounds with nothing worse than a bogey. His even-par average on par-4 holes was tied for the 6th-best in the field.

  • Sophomore Menacho avoided anything higher than a bogey on his card over the 36 holes as he was competing for UTA for only the second time. He converted 25 pars to lead UTA and rank 11th in the field in that category.

  • Lindberg was teeing it up for the Mavs in a collegiate tournament for the first time since the 2017-18 season. He made nothing worse than a bogey in his 1st round.

  • Massengale moved up 20 spots on the leaderboard with his six-shot improvement from the 1st round to the 2nd round, thanks to four birdies (he had none in his 1st round).
FINAL-ROUND ACTION
The final round is set for Tuesday.

ABOUT TEXAS RANGERS GOLF CLUB
Opened in February of 2019, the state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of UTA's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course.

The Home of UTA Golf was designed by UTA alumni John Colligan and Trey Kemp of Arlington-based Colligan Golf Design. It features an expansive 23-acre practice area, and a new 33,871-square-foot clubhouse – which just opened in March of 2021 – features a full-service restaurant and bar, covered patio overlooking the golf course, pro shop, locker rooms and numerous rental and event spaces.
