Austin Kelly Named Lady Mavs Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

ARLINGTON - UTA head women's basketball coach Shereka Wright has announced that Austin Kelly will join the Lady Mavs coaching staff as an assistant coach. Kelly will also serve as the program's recruiting coordinator.

"We are excited to welcome Austin to our Lady Mav Family," Wright said. "It was important for me to hire someone who understands my work ethic and does a great job of building relationships with players, recruits and coaches. Austin has a bright future in our profession and I know he will be a great addition to our program."

Kelly comes to UTA after spending two seasons at Vanderbilt (2019-20, 2020-21). He joined the Vanderbilt staff in 2019 after serving at Georgia Tech as a graduate assistant with the women's basketball team (2018-19), where he also served as the assistant scouting coordinator.

"I'd like to thank Coach Wright and all involved for the opportunity to be a part of an amazing program," Kelly said. "UTA is a special place with an environment and atmosphere that I can't wait to experience firsthand. My vision for my role here is to make an impact on everything that I am a part of and add value to a staff and program that has set the tone early. I am excited and anxious to get to work with a great group of people and help our players elevate their games to the next level. Mav Up!"

While at Georgia Tech, Kelly's duties included being the defensive scout coach for all opponents, opponent personnel breakdowns, assisting with on-court player development, serving as the liaison to strength and conditioning, scheduling and assisting with off-season individual workouts and handling the daily coordination of the practice squad. Kelly also served as the assistant camp director.

Prior to his time at Georgia Tech, Kelly was the boys varsity basketball assistant and head junior varsity coach at South Cobb High School in Austell, Georgia, while also holding the positions of health and physical education teacher and athletic coordinator.

Kelly's resume also includes being the boys varsity basketball assistant at Kell High School and serving two stints at Champion Performance Training where he was the player development specialist.

Kelly graduated from Duke in 2011 where he played football (wide receiver) and finished his career with 1,439 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He also played a season of basketball at Division II Georgia Southwestern.
