ARLINGTON, Texas ---
Kayla White and
Starr Jacobs combined for 36 points to lead the UT Arlington women's basketball team (3-4) past North Texas, 76-58, on Tuesday night inside the College Park Center (CPC).
With the victory, the Lady Mavs snapped a four-game losing streak as they enter a three-game road stretch, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup at Houston on Thursday.
"I'm so proud of this team tonight," UT Arlington head coach
Shereka Wright said. "It was a great bounce back. We've played a very tough schedule. I'm just pleased with our leadership and our players understanding what's at stake and not allowing themselves to fall out (of focus). I thought our kids responded tonight. I thought it started with our seniors doing a really good job setting the pace tonight."
White poured in a season-best 20 points while matching her season-high with seven field goals over 14 attempts. She added five rebounds and a pair of assists while tallying her third straight and fifth game overall with double-digits this season.
Jacobs, meanwhile, finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting while leading all players with five steals and adding a team-high three assists. It was her fifth consecutive outing with at least 15 points, and she's averaging 19 points per contest over that stretch.
Another near double-double came from
Shyia Smith, who made her 21st consecutive start dating back to last year. The Idabel, Okla. native registered nine points and nine rebounds, including a team-best four on the offensive glass.
As a team, the Lady Mavs finished 30-of-59 (.508) from the field to produce their 724th win in program history. They held large advantages in points in the paint (48-24) and fast break points (27-6) and led by as many as 24 late in the first half.
Freshman
Alexsyah Goudeau made her first collegiate start, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with a season-best eight while pulling down five rebounds, dishing out three assists and blocking a pair of shots. Another rookie,
Bella Ringenberg, scored her first collegiate points with a second-half layup while adding two rebounds.
Despite foul trouble limiting her to nine minutes,
Kamaria Gipson was 3-for-3 from the field before finishing with seven points and seven rebounds as she was one of four players with multiple offensive corrals. Sophomore
Reniya Jones also finished with seven points, along with three assists, two rebounds and a steal in her second collegiate start.
De'Sha Benjamin (5) and
Taleyah Jones (2) combined for seven points off the bench. Second-year player

In a game they led from start to finish, UT Arlington improved to 31-30 all-time against North Texas, including 17-11 at home. They also remained undefeated at home (3-0) this year.
