ARLINGTON – UT Arlington's Chendall Weaver has been named the Western Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week for the second time this month as the Mavericks guard posted strong all-around performances in a pair of games this past Thursday and Saturday.
 
Over the course of two games last week, the 6-3 true freshman averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a pair of starts.
 
The Mansfield, Texas, native scored eight points, issued a career-high six assists – against just one turnover – and pulled down three rebounds in helping lead the Mavs to an 85-73 win over UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.
 
Two days later, the Mansfield Timberview High School product registered eight points, a game-high-tying seven rebounds, two steals and a pair of assists on Saturday at Abilene Christian. Over the two contests, Weaver logged 68 total minutes – the most by any UTA player.
 
Weaver has emerged as UTA's 3rd-leading scorer (8.3) this year, and is the team's 2nd-leading rebounder (4.7). He has started each of the last 14 games, has 11 contests of 5+ rebounds and eight outings of double-figure points.
 
This marks Weaver's second WAC Freshman of the Week honor this season as he claimed the award two weeks ago on Jan. 9. Along with Brandon Walker collecting the award on Dec. 5, UTA has a league-high three Freshman of the Week recognitions this season.
 
Weaver, Walker and UTA return to the College Park Center for a three-game homestand beginning this Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. against California Baptist. Promotions for Wednesday's game include:
