ARLINGTON, Texas ---
Brianna Ford, a senior outside hitter for the UT Arlington volleyball team, has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week.
The honor is the second of the season for Ford, and it is the fourth weekly award of her career including her WAC Offensive Player of the Week honor on Sept. 12 last year and her Sun Belt Freshman of the Week accolade on Oct. 20, 2020.
"Bri played exceptional volleyball in all phases of the game," UTA head coach
J.T. Wenger said. "As a student of the game, she continues to develop as an attacker, blocker, defender, server, and receiver to help the program advance in all aspects."
Ford helped lead the Mavs to a 1-1 week with an impressive 5.17 kills, 3.14 digs and one block per set while hitting .436.
Ford opened the week with 15 kills, 11 digs and four blocks at a .297 clip against Grand Canyon. It was her seventh outing with at least 15 terminations this year, and it was her 60th career match with double-digit kills. Following that, she added one more to each of those tallies with 25 kills, 11 digs and three blocks with a .561 hitting percentage in a three-set win over California Baptist.
Against CBU, Ford fell one shy of the program's overall three-set kill record but established a new rally-scoring era UTA benchmark. She matched her career-high for kills while pushing her season double-double total to eight.
On top of that, the Amarillo native pushed her career termination total to 1,063, which moves her past Jackie Bennett (1,047, 1985-88) for 18th place on the program's all-time list.
Ford and the Mavs (14-5, 3-3 WAC) will be back in action Thursday night against Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. inside the College Park Center.
