ERIE, Colo. – Arran Kanth notched the best finish of any UT Arlington men's golfer this year with a tie for 3rd thanks to a closing round of 2-under 70 on Tuesday from Colorado's Mark Simpson Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club.
Kanth posted a 6-under 210 total to wrap up his third under- or level-par round of the week and conclude his third event of the season in a three-way tie for 3rd, just three shots back of medalist Tobias Jonsson from Mercer.
Daniel Cronje jumped 19 spots on the leaderboard after signing for a 2-under scorecard – his second-straight 70. After an opening-round 75 had the South African in a tie for 68th, his 2nd-round 70 jumped him to a tie for 40th before the last 70 propelled him all the way to a finishing position of T-21 on the individual leaderboard.
As a team, UTA finished in 12th place following a final-round 298 on the altitude-impacted 7,787-yard par-72 layout. San Francisco (-19) held off host Colorado (-17) to claim the title as those were the only two teams in the 17-squad field to post double digits under par.

INSIDE THE SCORES
KANTH
Kanth was looking to make a move on the leaderboard as he entered the day T-7, and he did just that with a strong start in his final round. The Englishman birdied his fourth hole of the day – the par-4 11th – and continued his back-9 dominance with eight pars. Kanth then birdied the 1st hole – his 11th of the day – and briefly moved into a share of the lead. Another late birdie on his second-to-last hole left the graduate transfer with only the par-5 7th left to play. However, an unfortunate bogey – his first and only of the day – caused Kanth to fall back to a 70 and out of the running for medalist, but still representing the best finish by a UTA golfer this season.
CRONJE
The South African started on the 9th hole, caught fire early with three birdies in his first four holes and looked poised for a low round. Back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14 – his 5th and 6th holes of the day – didn't do as much damage to his round since he quickly regained those strokes on 16 and 18 with two birdies. He carded a bogey at the 1st when making the turn to his second 9, and proceeded to bogey the 6th as well. A birdie on his last hole helped secure Cronje's fourth under-par performance of the year with a 70.
MILLER
Miller started his final round on the par-3 9th hole and couldn't quite get anything rolling as he carded two bogeys and a double through his first 10 holes. The Kansas State grad transfer was able to card his first, and only, birdie of the day on the par-4, 455-yard 1st hole en route to a closing 79.
KATO
The junior transfer couldn't manage any birdies in his final round, and he finished with six bogeys and 12 pars for a 78.
CHEVALIER
The freshman also struggled in his final round with no birdies. He was able to finish with eight bogeys en route to an 80.
THIS AND THAT
Cronje and Kanth both ranked tied for 7th in par-3 scoring average for the week at 3.08 (+1) … Kanth was tied for 5th in par-4 scoring average (3.83, -5), and Cronje ranked tied for 7th in par-5 scoring average at 4.58 (-5) … Kanth and Cronje both led the Mavs with 13 birdies over the three rounds.
