ARLINGTON, TEXAS --- The UT Arlington volleyball team snapped Grand Canyon's 21-set winning streak, but the visiting Antelopes produced a 23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-23 win over the Mavs inside the College Park Center on Thursday night.
With her match-high 21 digs, graduate libero
Alli Wells pushed her career total to 1,900, allowing her to become just the third player in program history to reach that milestone. In doing so, she surpassed Amber Pack (1,887, 1999-02) and only trails Ashley Smith (1,921, 2003-06) and Alicia Shaffer (2,033, 2008-11) for the top spot.
Offensively,
Brianna Ford led the charge with a team-best 15 kills, 11 digs and four blocks while producing her team-best seventh double-double of the season. It was also her seventh match with at least 15 terminations this year, and it was her 60th career outing with double-digit kills.
In addition to Ford, the Mavs got 25 combined kills from
Evyn Snook (9),
Paige Reagor (8) and
Briana Brown (8), while
Jalie Tritt chipped in six.
Mollie Blank (19) and
Sophie Skinner (16) combined for 35 assists while adding seven and five digs, respectively.
Defensively,
Alyssa Duran matched her season high with 14 digs. Reagor (6) and Ford (4) led the way in blocks as UTA totaled 16 as a team. Wells chipped in seven assists.
With the loss, the Mavs (13-5, 2-3 WAC) fell to 2-2 all-time against Grand Canyon (12-4, 5-0 WAC). They'll be back in action against California Baptist at 12 p.m. on Saturday inside the College Park Center.
