Baseball Drops Series Finale To The Redhawks

SEATTLE, Wash. – The UT Arlington baseball team (13-16, 4-5 WAC) was defeated 7-2 by the Seattle U Redhawks (7-17, 5-7 WAC) on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Bannerwood Park.

Offensively, the Mavericks collected five hits as a team, led by Ryan Black who went 3-4, driving in one run and hitting his ninth double of the year. Garrison Berkley finished with one hit coming via a double, his 10th double of the season. Reed Thomas rounded out the hits for the Mavs, finishing 1-2 with a single on the afternoon.

UTA used three pitchers on the game with Caden Noah (L, 2-1) getting the start on the mound, going 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking two. Matt Novis came in relief on Noah, going 1.2 innings, surrendering one run on two hits and punching out one. Zach Norris finished the game for the Mavs, going 2.0 innings and giving up two runs on four hits while striking out two.

In the top of the 1st inning, Berkley started things off for the Mavs with a double down the left field line with Ryan Black driving him in on a single up the middle to put UTA up 1-0. Seattle U responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up a one run apiece.

In the top of the 2nd inning, Tyler Rice would draw a walk followed by Wilson Galvan being hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for the Mavericks. Reed Thomas would move them over via a sacrifice bunt. Zach Henry would bring in Ty. Rice on a groundout to the shortstop to regain the lead for the Mavs, 2-1.

The Redhawks would retake the lead in the bottom of the 3rd, plating two runs and wouldn't look back. They would go on to score one run in the 5th and 6th innings and plate two runs in the 8th while the Mavs couldn't muster any more run production.
