DeWalt joins UTA volleyball coaching staff as assistant coach

Former collegiate setter starred at Texas State

ARLINGTON --- Emily DeWalt, who recently completed an All-American career at Texas State as the Sun Belt's all-time assist leader, has joined the UT Arlington women's volleyball staff as an assistant coach. She replaces Emily Hill, who departed to take an assistant position at her alma mater, Texas Tech.

During her time at Texas State, DeWalt led the Bobcats to a 126-44 record, including a 72-8 record in Sun Belt Conference (SBC) regular season play. She guided the team to five combined SBC regular season and tournament championships, as well as three NCAA Tournament appearances, which included the program's first two all-time victories in the event.

DeWalt concluded her career with 6,131 assists while tallying the third-most career digs (1,546) and the seventh-best career attack percentage (.307) in program history. Incredibly, she was a five-time SBC Setter of the Year and First Team All-SBC selection while capturing the Sun Belt Setter of the Week award 25 times. In her final two seasons, she was named the SBC Player of the Year and was tabbed an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. As a freshman, she was selected as the SBC's top rookie and was named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week on Oct. 1. In total, she compiled 80 career double-doubles and was a four-time VolleyballMag.com Honorable Mention All-American.

"Emily's collegiate volleyball legacy is almost unparalleled," UTA head coach J.T. Wenger said. "As the setter for an annual conference contender, she maximized the players around her and led through poise and determination. She has had great mentors, and I know that her transition to a coaching role will aid our success immediately."

Away from Texas State, DeWalt was a part-time assistant coach with the United Volleyball Association over the past two years, which included assisting with the 16's national team in 2021-22. She also served in a similar role with the San Antonio Magic Volleyball Club in 2019, where she helped lead the 12's national team.

A Helotes, Texas native, DeWalt prepped at Louis D. Brandeis High School, where she was the nation's No. 44 recruit according to the Senior Ace List compiled by PrepVolleyball.com. As a senior, she was named an AVCA Under Armour Girls High School All-American, and she helped lead Brandeis to a 130-43 record over her career.

DeWalt earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from Texas State in December 2021 before completing a master's degree in education this past May.
