PROVO, Utah – Behind record-breaking numbers from sophomores
Kamri Gabel and
Madison Le, the UT Arlington women's golf team posted its best low round in program history with a 1st-round 280 (-8) in Sunday's opening round at the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational.
The Mavericks are currently tied for 2nd-place overall with Cal State Fullerton across the 19-team field. Sunday's low round marks a new program record for UTA as the Mavs' previous record was a -3 performance at Arkansas State's Lady Red Wolves Class back in 2020.
Gabel turned in her best round of her collegiate career as the sophomore's card was nearly flawless – aside from one hiccup on 14. The Texas native improved her best low round score by eight shots after tabbing a final-round 73 back at the University of South Alabama's Intercollegiate. Now, Gabel holds the best low round in UTA program lore.
Fellow sophomore,
Madison Le, had a remarkable opening round herself as she reached a new milestone in her collegiate career, logging a 1st-round 68. With three rounds of even par or better to her name a season ago, Le now totals four in her young career.
Purdue transfer
Nitisha Manikandesh made quite the UTA debut as the newcomer posted an even 72 – best of her career.
