UTA Concludes Season Opener, Tabs Best 54-Hole Total in Program History

PROVO, Utah – Behind a final-round 72 from Madison Le, the UT Arlington women's golf team concluded Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational action Tuesday as the Mavericks tabbed the best 54-hole total in program history.

With rounds of 280-297-299, UTA produced its best team-total of 876 – seven shots better than the previous record which came back at Arkansas State's Lady Red Wolves Class in 2020.

Le paced the Maverick lineup with a T-24 finish across the 104-player field after posting rounds of 68-75-72. The young sophomore has five rounds of even par or better to her name in her career as three of those are from last season.

UTA's five-player squad had just one round of 80 or above across the entirety of the three-day tournament.

INSIDE THE SCORES
Le
  • Getting her start on hole 6, Le played the first 11 holes in an impressive -1 with four birdies coming on 8, 9, 10 and 15. Despite back-to-back bogeys on 3 and 4, the sophomore was able to par the closing hole, leading to a final-round 72.
Gabel
  • The sophomore struggled to gain momentum in Tuesday's final round of the Timpanogos Collegiate Invite as she logged a 78. Gabel's round consisted of a triple, six bogeys, eight pars and three birdies which came on 1, 2 and 8.
Manikandesh
  • Manikandesh began her last round on 7 as she shot in even through the first four holes before a pair of consecutive doubles on 12 and 13 set her card back +2. The sophomore capped a final-round 76 with a trio of birdies on 16, 4 and 5 along with two bogeys on 2 and 6.
Gulhane
  • Gulhane shaved four shots off from Monday's first round as she turned in a 73. The newcomer did not put anything higher than a bogey on her card as she only recorded a pair of bogeys which came on 2 and 12 followed by a birdie on 6.
Tran
  • Despite opening with a bogey on 8, Tran found her groove as she played the next eight holes in even with a birdie on 13. Unfortunately, the sophomore put up five additional bogeys and a double which derailed her momentum, settling for a 79.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will take nearly a two-week break from competition before Sam Houston's two-day Bearkat Invitational beginning Monday, Sept. 25 from Sam Houston Bearkat Course.
