ARLINGTON, TEXAS ---
Mollie Blank, who helped lead the Mavs to the UTA Invitational championship this past weekend, has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Setter of the Week.
The senior totaled 129 assists (12.9 per set), 22 digs (2.2 per set), seven kills and six blocks along with a .545 hitting percentage over three wins for UTA. Along with her WAC Defensive Player of the Week selection Nov. 14 of last year, this is the second career weekly award for the Mansfield, Texas native.
"Mollie had a great weekend and ran the offense with a very high efficiency," UTA head coach
J.T. Wenger said. "Her veteran leadership has been a great asset to the program this season."
In a win over DFW rival North Texas on Thursday, Blank opened the week with 35 assists, 10 digs, five blocks and two kills over just three sets for her second double-double of the season. On Friday, she posted a season-best 52 assists along with four digs and three kills against McNeese. She concluded the week with 42 assists and eight digs against Texas A&M Commerce.
With her performance, Blank pushed her career assist total to 1,711, moving into 10th place on the program's career list, surpassing current assistant coach
Kylee Kapp (1,654, 2018-21). Her 52-assist performance was also the first time a Mav has tallied at least 50 in a match since
Jessica Stancliff had 51 against Northwestern State on Sept. 18, 2021.
Blank and the Mavs will be back in action Thursday at 6 p.m. inside the CPC against UTRGV. It will be the WAC opener for both programs.
