Softball Falls to Illinois State, Wichita State in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UT Arlington softball team dropped its doubleheader against Illinois State (6-4) and Wichita State (6-1) Saturday on day two of the Razorback Invitational from Bogle Park.

UTA looks to snap its losing streak heading into the final game of the three-day tournament with a second meeting against No. 14 Arkansas on Sunday, Feb. 25.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Illinois State (L, 6-4)
The Mavericks started out hot in the top of the first as a double from Lindsey Franklin got UTA on the board first with one. The fifth year collected her fourth multi-hit contest on the season with another 2-3 performance at the plate for the weekend.

Camille Corona joined Franklin with two hits of her own with Emma Lopez, Kaylee Cavazos and Morgan Westbrook contributing with one hit each.

On the mound, Gracie Bumpurs made her fourth start of the year against Illinois State as she went on to toss four innings, allowing four earned runs off six hits.

Freshman Abi Gutierrez came in and threw the remainder of the game, limiting the Red Birds to just one hit across 12 batters faced.

UTA attempted a comeback but ultimately fell short, handing Bumpurs the loss.
