DENTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team put up a good fight with the Mean Green of North Texas Wednesday night, but ultimately came up short taking a 5-3 loss from Lovelace Stadium.
UTA moves on to an overall record of 3-13 and looks to get itself back in the win column with the four-day annual Boerner Invitational beginning Thursday, Feb. 29 from Allan Saxe Field.

Senior
Zaia Castruita highlighted UTA's six total hits as the California native came in as a pinch hitter and belted her first home run of the season.

Kaylee Cavazos (1-2) and
Marley Neises (1-3) with RBI's coming from Corona, Castruita and
Lindsey Franklin.
Freshman
Jade Moreno got the start on the mound for UTA and completed four innings of work, allowing three earned runs off six hits.
Adams entered the game in the bottom of the fifth and faced nine batters. UTA's bats attempted a comeback but fell short handing Adams the loss.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will continue their seven-game stretch with a doubleheader against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Thursday, Feb. 29 beginning at 3:30 p.m. to commence the first day of the 5th Boerner Invitational.
The Boerner Invitational is named in honor of Melissa Boerner, a former UTA softball captain who was killed by a drunk driver the day before her senior year began in 1998. The tournament is put on to help raise awareness to the importance of responsible drinking.
