Mavs Fall To ACU In A Back And Forth Battle

ABILENE, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team was defeated by the Abilene Christian Wildcats 8-7 at Crutcher Scott Field this Saturday.

The Mavs fell behind 3-0 at the end of the 1st inning, however, the offense picked right back up from last night and were able to take a run back in the top of the 2nd inning after an RBI double from Parker Airhart

The Wildcats regained its 3-run lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, 4-1. However, the Mavs offense punched right back with a 2-run 4th inning thanks to an RBI single from Tate Bethel that plated Ryan Ellis and Tyson Pointer, who both reached base with a single.

Down just 3-4 heading into the 5th inning, ACU was able to plate another run in the bottom of the 5th to increase its lead by 2. The Mavs struck right back in the top of the 6th inning after Bethel hit a solo homerun to right field to decrease the Wildcat lead to just one again. However, ACU then regained its 2-run lead in the bottom of the 6th to jump out to a 6-4 lead.

ACU scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to increase its lead 8-4. In the top of the 8th, a Maverick comeback brewed after Ryan Ellis blasted a 2-run shot to right center, his first home run of his career, following Ellis, Airhart then hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to just one run. However, the Mavs couldn't get anything going in the top of the 9th inning, eventually falling to the Wildcats, 7-8.
