RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (15-15, 11-9 WAC) was defeated 91-75 by California Baptist (25-3, 17-2 WAC) inside the Fowler Events Center on Thursday night.
The Lady Mavs were led by
Gia Adams who had a game-high 30 points on 10-for-17 from the field and an impressive 8-for-12 from deep. The eight made three-pointers is a new career-high for Adams while the 30 points is the most she's scored in a Lady Mavs uniform and was three away from her career-best. Adams also added five rebounds and an assist while playing all 40 minutes.
Avery Brittingham,
Nya Threatt and
Hannah Humphrey all finished with eight points. Brittingham also grabbed nine rebounds, dished out a team-high six assists while finishing with a block and a steal on the defensive end. Threatt was 2-for-3 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe while also finishing with three rebounds, four assists and a steal in 31 minutes. Humphrey also secured a career-high five rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.
Taliyah Clark and
Kali Haizlip both finished with six points. Clark pulled down nine rebounds, which was tied with Brittingham for the team lead, and tossed out three assists. Haizlip also had one rebound, one assist and a team-high two steals.
The Lady Mavs won the opening tip and registered the game's first basket to take an early 2-0 lead which would be UTA's only lead of the game. The 25 points the Lancers scored in the second quarter were the most points in a quarter given up by the Lady Mavs in any quarter for the game. CBU held UTA to 13 points in the second to go into halftime with the Lady Mavs trailing 44-24.
The Lady Mavs came out in the second half swinging, dropping 29 points in the third quarter to go into the fourth trailing 68-53.
UTA would get within eight points of CBU with a little over six minutes left in regulation thanks to Adams hitting two free throws to make it a 73-65 game. The Lancers would then use a 6-0 run to go back up by double digits. The Lady Mavs would get it back down to single digits with under five minutes left, 79-70, before the Lancers would use a 7-0 run to go up 16, 86-70, effectively ending the game.

The Lady Mavs will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. next week to participate in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. More details will be available soon.
