Women's Golf Closes Out Season at WAC Championship

PAYSON, AZ – The UT Arlington women's golf team's 2023-24 has come to an end head coach Catherine Matranga and company wrapped up the Western Athletic Conference Championship Sunday from The Rim Golf Club at Chapparal Pines.

The conference tournament marked the second time Nitisha Manikandesh has finished as the leading scorer this season as the sophomore transfer also tabbed her second top-10 individual finish as she tied for 6th. The Plano, Texas native recorded rounds of 75-75-74, leading to a 224 54-hole total.

Manikandesh's previous top-10 finish came from two weeks ago at the ULM's Invitational after posting rounds of 70-74-78.

Although UTA shaved off four shots from its second-round team total, the Mavericks didn't make any moves in the team leaderboard as the squad placed 8th. With rounds of 303-312-308, capping the event at 923 (+71).

INSIDE THE SCORES
Manikandesh
  • The sophomore produced a 39 (+3) on the front nine with her first birdie of the round coming on the par-3 8th hole. Manikandesh went on to card two bogeys (11, 17) and two additional birdies (15, 16) across the closing nine, leading to a final-round 74.
Le
  • Le played the front nine the best of the UTA lineup as she shot +1 with just one hiccup on 2. Unfortunately, the sophomore's momentum slowed down as several bogeys set her back. However, Le managed to record a closing birdie to get her card back down to +4.
Choi
  • Choi concluded her time as a Maverick with a final-round 78. Her round featured one double, five bogeys and 12 pars. However, the fifth year was able to play the back side +2 – second-best of the Maverick squad.
Gabel
  • Gabel struggled in Sunday's last round as she logged a round of 81. The sophomore couldn't settle in as several mishaps prevented her from gaining any momentum. Gabel was able to birdie hole 8 – her first and only of the round.
Gulhane
  • Gulhane put up three bogeys and a double across the opening nine before making the turn. Four additional bogeys across the next five holes set her back +5 before parring the final four holes.
