PAYCON, Ariz. - The UT Arlington men's golf team is in first place after day one of the WAC Championship at The Golf Club at Chapparal Pines.
Daniel Cronje's four-under par 68 leads the field by one stroke and set the pace for UTA during the opening 18 on the par-72, 6,947-yard layout.
UTA's two-over par 290 gives the Mavs a two-shot lead over Grand Canyon (292), with Utah Valley (293) and Tarleton St. (295) in the top four.
UTA will return to action Saturday beginning at 12:40 central time with live scoring available via BirdieFire.

Cronje's torrid play continues with his third straight round at par or better, with his opening round score one off his career low. After an opening hole bogey, Cronje birdied the par-3 third and the par-4 fifth to shoot one-under on the first nine. Cronje carded seven straight pars before three consecutive birdies on the par-3 13th, par-5 14th, and par-4 15th. He bogeyed the 16th before a par on 17th and a closing birdie on the par-4 18th. Cronje's six birdies is tied for the most in the field.
