DALLAS, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (0-2) dropped their first home match of the spring slate against Pepperdine (1-1) Wednesday, Jan. 22, by a final score of 5-2. 
 
The match was originally scheduled to take place at the UTA Tennis Center but was held at the indoor courts at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU due to the freezing weather hitting North Texas.
 
The Mavericks came out strong, securing the doubles point thanks to wins on Court 2 and 3.
 
The pairing of Pedro Sasso and Meethre Barot took down Linus Halldin and Maxi Homberg on Court 2 by a score of 7-6 (4) while the team of Andres Medus and Mattia Ricci defeated Aleksa Pisaric and Lasse Poertner on Court 3 by a score of 6-3. Yazid Lahjomri and Federico Garbero fell 6-4 on Court 1 to Edward Winter and Hugh Winter.
 
Singles play followed with the Mavs picking up a win on Court 5, their only win in singles action. Ricci defeated Hugh Winter 6-1, 6-3.
 
Barot fell in a close match to Edward Winter on Court 1 by a score of 6-1, 7-6, 6-1.
 
On Court 2, Sasso dropped the match to Linus Halldin by a final score of 6-3, 6-1. Medus fell on Court 3 to Lasse Poertner by a final score of 6-1, 6-2. Garbero dropped the match on Court 4 to Aleska Pisaric by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Daniel Pérez-Caraballo fell on Court 6 to David Fix by a final score of 6-2, 6-0.
 
Luis Alvarez clinched the match for the Sooners on Court 2 against Meethre Barot. Alvarez took the match in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2.
 
Medus, Ricci, and Pérez-Caraballo all went unfinished.
 
The Mavs return to action next Saturday, Feb. 1, when they welcome New Mexico to the UTA Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. match.
