SEATTLE, Wash. – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (9-7, 4-1 WAC) is back in the win column after defeating Seattle U (3-15, 0-5 WAC) by a final score of 70-58 Thursday night from inside the Redhawk Center.
The Lady Mavs pick up their third all-time win over the Redhawks with all three victories coming in Seattle. The victory secures UTA's second win on the road and their fourth win in conference play.
The Lady Mavs were led by
Koi Love who led all scorers with 22 points, her sixth 20-point game of the season and third in conference play. She also grabbed eight rebounds, tied her career high with six steals, while finishing with a block and an assist in a game-high 36 minutes of action.
Three other Lady Mavs finished with double digit scoring efforts.
Nya Threatt tied her season-high with 12 points, going 8-for-9 from the free throw line. She also added four rebounds, three steals, one assist and a block in 24 minutes.
Avery Brittingham finished with her eighth double double of the season, which leads the conference, after putting up 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with four assists and a steal in 26 minutes. Tonight's game was Brittingham's 49th straight start, starting every game since she's arrived on campus.
Alexsyah Goudeau tied her season high of 11 points off the bench for the Lady Mavs tonight while also finishing with two steals, one rebound and one assist in 22 minutes.
Miraya Perkins finished with nine points off the bench, going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe while dishing out an assist in 16 minutes of action.
The Lady Mavs controlled the opening tip and recorded the first bucket. UTA never once trailed in the game and spent a total of 50 seconds tied during regulation.
UTA shot 30-percent while holding Seattle to 18.8 percent in the first quarter with the rebounds tied at 14 apiece. The Lady Mavs forced the Redhawks into seven turnovers while only turning the ball over four times in the first. Love ended the first with a steal and quick bucket to put the Lady Mavs up five over the Redhawks, 14-9.
The Redhawks managed to tie the game at 23 even in the second before Love made a layup with three seconds left to break the tie and give the Lady Mavs the lead headed into the locker room up two, 25-23. The Lady Mavs shot 28.6 percent from the field at the half while holding Seattle to shooting 22.2 percent from the floor. The Redhawks led in the rebound category at the half, 24-22 while having 13 turnovers compared to nine for the Lady Mavs.
Love led all players with 15 points on 7-for-12 shooting heading into the locker room. Also led UTA with six rebounds.
An 11-2 run for the Lady Mavs to begin the third quarter put them up 12, 37-25 with 6:46 left to go in the quarter highlighted by six-points from Goudeau. A 15-6 run in the last five minutes of the third for the Redhawks pulled them within two, hitting a three pointer to beat the shot clock to make it 45-43 Lady Mavs.
At the early part of the fourth quarter, a 9-2 run by the Lady Mavs put them up nine, 54-45. A three pointer for Seattle cut the lead down to six, the closest the Redhawks would get for the reminder of the game. The Lady Mavs managed to run up a double-digit lead that saw them go up by as many as 15 before securing the 12-point win.
For the game, the Lady Mavs outshot the Redhawks from the field, shooting 37-percent from the floor compared to 36-percent. UTA finished with 14 steals and 16 fast break points while holding Seattle to zero fast break points. The Lady Mavs bench outscored the Redhawks 23 to 16. Both squads finished with 38 rebounds for the game.
