ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (12-7, 7-1 WAC) picked up their fourth straight win after defeating Utah Tech (5-15, 1-6 WAC) 86-67 from inside Burns Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Mavs move their record against Utah Tech to .500 with a 3-3 record and have now won three straight in the series, picking up both wins against the Trailblazers this season.
The Lady Mavs had three players in double figures highlighted by a career high 18 points from
Nya Threatt who shot 80 percent from the field while going 2-for-3 from deep. She also grabbed six rebounds while dishing out five assists in 26 minutes.
Aspen Thornton tied her season high with 16 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. She added two rebounds and two assists in a season high 30 minutes of action.
Avery Brittingham finished with her league leading 11th double double, finishing with 16 points and 17 rebounds. The 17 rebounds tied her season high. Brittingham also added seven assists, two steals and a block in 32 minutes.
Alexsyah Goudeau tied her season high with 11 points, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from deep. She added three rebounds, one assists, two steals and one block in 25 minutes.
The Lady Mavs came out scorching hot, recording 27 points in the opening quarter, the second most they've put up to start a game on the season.
Utah Tech kept it close for three quarters going into the fourth down five, 64-59. The Trailblazers recorded a bucket in the opening 30 seconds of the fourth to find themselves down three, 64-61, before UTA exploded for 22 points while holding Utah Tech to eight points. After the Trailblazers registered the first points of the quarter, the Lady Mavs would go on a 11-0 run to effectively put the game out of reach.
As a unit, the Lady Mavs matched their season's best performance from beyond the arc, shooting 47.4 percent from deep, their best mark in conference play so far. For the ninth time this season, the Lady Mavs outrebounded their opponent, grabbing 10 more boards then the Trailblazers, 51-41.
The Lady Mavs bench shined bright outperforming the Utah Tech bench, recording 27 points while the Trailblazers bench recorded four. UTA outperformed the Trailblazers in the paint, registering 36 points down low while holding Utah Tech to 28 points. UTA had 14 second chance points compared to Utah Tech's 10.
