Lady Mavs Fall On The Road To Tarleton State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (14-10, 9-4 WAC) fell in a hard-fought battle to Tarleton State (18-10, 9-4 WAC) 67-57 inside Wisdom Gym on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lady Mavs had three players score in double figures, led by Avery Brittingham, who notched another double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists, two blocks and a steal in 32 minutes. Koi Love added 12 points, four steals, three assists, two rebounds and a block in 38 minutes while Taliyah Clark chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 28 minutes of action.
 
GAME FLOW
After falling behind 3-2, UTA went on a 7-0 run with 8:23 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Love, to take a 9-3 lead. The Lady Mavs then lost some of that lead but still entered the quarter break with a 20-17 advantage. UTA took advantage of one offensive rebound to score three second chance points out of 20 total in the period
 
The second quarter was not friendly to the Lady Mavs, recording nine points in the second which was their worst scoring quarter since conference play started where the Lady Mavs failed to record 10 or more points in a quarter. You would have to go back to December of 2024 when the Lady Mavs put up seven points in the first quarter at UTSA. UTA loss their lead with five minutes left until the half and entered the locker room trailing 36-29.
 
After intermission, the Lady Mavs cut their deficit to 40-36 before going on a 5-0 run to grab a 41-40 lead with 5:23 to go in the third quarter. Tarleton State responded to seize a 48-44 lead entering the fourth quarter. UTA took advantage of seven Texan turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.
 
UTA pulled within five with under two minutes to go in the fourth but could not pull any closer, losing by a final of 67-57. The Lady Mavs pulled down three offensive rebounds to score four second chance points out of 13 total in the period.
 
GAME NOTES

  • Avery Brittingham notched her league leading 12th double double of the year for the Lady Mavs with 13 points and 11 rebounds, both team highs for the game.
  • The UTA defense forced 17 turnovers, the 20th time this season they've forced 15 or more in a game.
  • The Lady Mavs were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, recording six blocks as a team, the 12th time this season the Lady Mavs have finished with five or more blocks as a team for a game.
  • The loss moves the Lady Mavs losing streak to three games, all coming on the road and moving their away record to 4-10.
  • UTA's six game winning streak in the all-time series with Tarleton State was snapped with the loss, moving the Lady Mavs record to 15-6 against the Texans while falling to 6-3 inside Wisdom Gym.
  • The Lady Mavs and Texans matched each other in: three point percentage (25 percent both 3-for-12), assists (11), turnovers (17), and free throw attempts (22).
  • The Texans outrebounded the Lady Mavs 37-26, UTA now falls to 4-9 when outrebounded by the opponent.
  • There were 13 lead changes and eight ties in the game.
  • The Lady Mavs had nine second chance points compared to the Texans six.

The Lady Mavs return to the court with a full slate of conference hoops next week starting with Grand Canyon who travels to Arlington for an evening battle with UTA.
