It was a turn of events in the second quarter, with UNT taking a quick one-point lead in the first 14 seconds and never looked back. UTA managed to regain the lead for a mere moment at the 7:26 mark before UNT answered back to regain control of the lead at the 6:14 mark. The Mean Green would go on a 20-0 run when they regained the one-point lead to extend it to a comfortable 19-point lead and would take that 19-point lead into the locker room, 46-27.

The Mean Green continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 56-35 advantage before UTA went on an 8-0 run to trim its deficit to 56-43 with 3:13 to go in the third. The Lady Mavs continued to reduce the UNT lead, shrinking it to 62-57 by the end of the third quarter behind a couple of key three pointers and a Sportscenter Top 10 type play from Love who threw a bounce pass behind her back that happened to go between the defender's legs into Ny Threatt's awaiting hands for the layup with contact for the plus one.
