ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (15-12, 10-6 WAC) sent the seniors out correctly on Senior Day after defeating California Baptist (12-18, 9-7 WAC) 87-73 behind a monster second quarter and three double doubles on Saturday afternoon inside the College Park Center.
The win marks the 11th home victory and moves the Lady Mavs home record to 11-1 to close out the regular season, the best finish at home since the 2006-07 season back when they played in Texas Hall. The .917 home winning percentage is the best winning percentage at home since the Lady Mavs moved into the CPC back in 2012. The win also snaps the Lady Mavs five game losing streak and gives UTA their first victory over CBU, was 0-6 entering today's game.
The Lady Mavs had four players score in double figures highlighted by three double doubles. Koi Love led the charge with a game high 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Avery Brittingham racked up her league leading 13th double double, finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and two blocks. Zoe Nelson notched her first double doble of the season, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Taliyah Clark finished with 21 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and a block to round out the scoring barrage for the Lady Mavs.
GAME FLOW
UTA kept it close in the first quarter but entered the second frame down 19-16.
The Lancers kept adding to that lead, building a 25-20 advantage before the Lady Mavs went on a 12-0 run, highlighted by a three from Clark, to take a 32-25 lead and never looked back from there. The Lady Mavs proceeded to tack on eight points to that lead and enjoyed a 45-30 advantage heading into halftime. UTA recorded 29 points in the frame, their second-best scoring output for a quarter during conference play.
UTA continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Brittingham, to expand its lead further to 60-41 with 4:29 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Lancers had cut into that lead somewhat, but UTA still entered the fourth quarter with a 67-54 edge.
The Lady Mavs kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Love's steal and layup, to grow the lead to 86-71 with 54 seconds to go in the contest to cruise to the 87-73 win.
GAME NOTES
- This is the first time this season the Lady Mavs have had three players finish with a double double.
- UTA never trailed in the second half on its way to victory.
- The Lady Mavs shared the ball well, recording an assist on 87 percent of made field goals.
- UTA had a 46-35 edge on the boards in the win, move to 9-0 when outrebounding opponents.
- The Lady Mavs forced the Lancers into 13 turnovers, while committing only seven themselves, now are 11-5 when committing less turnovers than opponent.
- UTA finished with six blocks, the 14th time this season they've finished with five or more blocks in a game.
- UTA finished with 26 assists as a team on the afternoon.
- The Lady Mavs cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 15 offensive boards in the game.
- This is the first time in head coach Shereka Wright's career that she finishes with 10 or more win inside the CPC.
