TUCSON, Ariz. --Freshman Cade Dodson collected three hits, but the UT Arlington Mavericks fell to the No. 16 Arizona Wildcats 9-3 Wednesday.
Senior Merek Sears (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for UT Arlington (13-24). Sophomore Kyle Winkler was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.
In addition to his three hits, Dodson had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Mavericks. Junior Xavier Melendez put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Dodson came across to score the lone run of the inning for UT Arlington and get them on the board.
The Wildcats then rallied to score nine runs and take a 9-1 lead before the Mavericks got back on the board in the eighth. UT Arlington plated two runs off of Arizona pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Dodson, which brought the score to 9-3 in favor of the Wildcats. The Mavericks were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
