Mavs Drop Series Opener Against Seattle U

ARLINGTON, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks had a tough showing on Thursday, falling to the Seattle U Redhawks 6-2 despite the efforts of sophomore Caylon Dygert, who went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Dygert (6-4) started and took the loss on the mound for UT Arlington (18-30, 10-12). The right-hander went three innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mavericks were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. UT Arlington got an RBI single from Dygert, scoring senior Tate Bethel from second base.

The Mavericks deficit expanded to 4-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. UT Arlington scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Dygert, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Redhawks. The Mavericks were unable to get any closer, as Seattle U added two runs to their tally on the way to a 6-2 final.

» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed one run across.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 42 Seattle U hitters in the game, allowing 13 ground balls and 12 fly balls while striking out two.
» Dygert led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
