ARLINGTON, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to an 8-1 victory over the Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday. The victory marked the first Senior Day victory since 2022.
Senior Jack Hagan (2-0) got the win for UT Arlington (19-31, 11-13). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. Junior Aaron Calhoun also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. UT Arlington scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from sophomore Xander McAfee.
The Redhawks then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-1 until the Mavericks expanded their advantage in the third. Senior Tyce Armstrong came across to score the lone run of the inning for UT Arlington, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Mavericks.
UT Arlington kept Seattle U without a run before building their lead to 5-1 in the seventh inning.
UT Arlington kept the Redhawks without a run before their offense got things moving the next inning. The three-run fram for the Mavericks was puncuated by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Caylon Dygert. bringing the score to 8-1 in favor of UT Arlington. The score remained 8-1 for the rest of the game, as the Mavericks coasted to the win.
