Threatt, Reynolds Score 14 Each, but UTA Drops 60-58 Decision

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Nya Threatt scored 14 points, and Kira Reynolds added 14 of her own, but UT Arlington women's basketball (10-16, 4-10 WAC) couldn't hold off Utah Tech (7-17, 2-12 WAC) down the stretch as the Lady Mavericks fell 60-58 Wednesday at Burns Arena.

UTA trailed by two with seconds remaining, but Threatt's 3-point attempt at the buzzer fell short, ending the Lady Mavericks' comeback bid.

UT Arlington jumped out of the gates strong, scoring 22 first-quarter points on 50% shooting to grab an early lead. The Lady Mavericks controlled much of the opening frame, but the second quarter proved costly. UTA managed just eight points shooting as Utah Tech surged ahead and took a lead into halftime.

The Lady Mavericks continued to battle in the third quarter, but the Trailblazers maintained their advantage heading into the final 10 minutes. UTA made its push in the fourth, outscoring Utah Tech 16-14 in the quarter and cutting the deficit to two with time winding down, but the Trailblazers' lead proved just enough.

Threatt finished with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting and went 6-of-8 at the free-throw line. Reynolds matched her with 14 points on 5-of-12 from the floor. Jadyn Atchison contributed 10 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Laura Bello rounded out the Maverick contributors with eight points.

UTA shot 37.9% (22-of-58) from the field and went 12-of-15 (80.0%) at the free-throw line. The Lady Mavericks held a commanding 43-27 rebounding advantage and outscored Utah Tech 22-16 in paint points, but 17 turnovers led to 23 Utah Tech points off giveaways.

Utah Tech was paced by Kaylee Borden, who poured in 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
