ARLINGTON, TX -- The Mavericks were not able to notch a run against Wichita State pitcher sophomore Ryley Nihart on Friday and were shut out 6-0 by the Shockers during their first game of the Boerner Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Hailey Lynn Sralik (0-1) got the ball to start for UTA (4-6) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UT Arlington managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Mavericks last got a runner on third in the sixth, when Kelsey Creech made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 36 Wichita State hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and 12 fly balls.
» Freshman Kaylee Schweitzer led the Mavericks at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a double.
» Wichita State was led offensively by junior Johnna Schroeder, who went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs.
» Nihart led the Shockers pitching staff, throwing seven shutout innings.
