ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington threatened late but could not break through as Lamar claimed the series with a 5-3 win Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks put the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth after loading the bases with two outs, but Lamar's shortstop made a diving stop up the middle to end the inning and preserve the lead. It was the defining defensive play in a game where opportunities were present, but difficult to convert.

UTA finished with eight hits and worked multiple deep counts throughout the afternoon, but left runners on base in key moments. Lamar built its lead with timely hitting across the middle innings, stringing together run-producing at-bats to create separation before the Mavericks mounted their late push.

PITCHING PROFILE

• Skolfield made the start and worked 4.0 innings, allowing three runs while striking out a pair to keep UTA within striking distance.
• Jacob Havern provided length out of the bullpen, covering 3.0 innings and limiting Lamar to two runs while recording key outs in the middle frames.
•  Zach Evans closed the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out one and keeping the deficit at two to give the Mavericks a final opportunity at the plate.
