SAN ANTONIO, TX - The UT Arlington softball team opened play at the Birds Up Bash with a dominant 8-0 shutout victory over Saint Francis on Friday morning.

The Mavericks (7-9) scored in four of the first six innings, highlighted by a three-run third inning that broke the game open. UTA finished with eight runs on 10 hits and did not commit an error in the win.
 
UTA's offense was powered by multiple contributors at the plate. Valeria Feeney went 2-for3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Mia McNulty aslo tallied two hits and drove in a run. Kelsey Creech added two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats, and Kaylee Schweitzer crossed the plate once to help fuel the Mavericks' eight run performance.
 
The Mavericks got on the board early with a run in the first and added another in the second before erupting for three runs in the third to take control. UTA tacked on insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to secure the run-rule victory.
 
In the circle, Maddie Furniss delivered a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits over six innings while striking out four. She improved to 2-3 on the season. UTA's defense backed her up with a clean sheet in the field, turning one double play.
 
Saint Francis was limited to four hits and stranded five runners. Katherine Hrinda took (0-4) took the loss for the Red Flash.
