Balanced Bello Leads the Way, UTA Grinds Out 60-59 OT Thriller

ARLINGTON, Texas – Behind a season-high 17 points from Laura Bello and poise at the line from Kira Reynolds, UT Arlington women's basketball  (10-13, 4-7 WAC)  outlasted Utah Valley (10-12, 3-8 WAC) 60-59 in overtime on Saturday night at the College Park Center.

Bello finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Reynolds also scored 17 and delivered key free throws in the closing minutes. The Lady Mavs controlled the glass, 44-37, and turned defense into offense with 25 points off turnovers to escape with the one-point overtime win.

GAME FLOW

The Lady Mavs claimed a 15-14 edge in the opening quarter, pushing tempo and turning stops into scoring chances. Utah Valley responded in the second, outscoring UTA 7-6 to knot the game at the break.

Laura Bello set the tone offensively, leading all scorers with 10 points, while Jadyn Atchison added five. UTA controlled the glass with a 21-15 rebounding advantage, including four offensive boards, and made Utah Valley pay for miscues on the other end.

"I've always been a hustle player...my moment just came today, and I did what I was supposed to do," said Bello.

Despite nine first-half turnovers of their own, the Mavericks stayed even by winning the hustle categories and finishing possessions. UT Arlington and Utah Valley went into the locker room deadlocked, 21-21.

Utah Valley edged the third 16-11, leaning heavily on the free-throw line. Still, UT Arlington stayed within striking distance by defending without fouling on the perimeter and continuing to share the ball offensively.

The Wolverines went just 4-of-17 from the field and 0-of-6 from three in the quarter, scoring half of their points at the line.

UT Arlington closed out a hard-fought 60-59 overtime victory with defense and composure, holding Utah Valley scoreless over the final possessions to secure the win.

With the game on the line, Jadyn Atchison delivered a crucial defensive stop, blocking a Utah Valley layup late in overtime, while the Lady Mavs controlled the glass and forced misses down the stretch. Utah Valley had multiple chances to respond in the final seconds, but UTA's defense stood tall, sealing the one-point win.

"We just want to compete. We're peaking slowly, but I love the direction we're going," said coach Wright
