NORMAN, Okla. – The UT Arlington Mavericks dropped a midweek contest to No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners baseball, falling 6–1 on Wednesday afternoon in Norman.
UTA struck first in the opening inning after
Harold Laracuente and
Xavier Melendez opened the game with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position before
Xander McAfee drove in Laracuente with an RBI groundout to give the Mavericks a 1–0 lead.
Oklahoma answered in the second inning to tie the game and gradually built separation with a two-run fourth inning and three additional runs in the sixth.
Laracuente led the Mavericks offensively with three hits, including a double, accounting for half of UTA's six hits on the afternoon. Melendez added a pair of hits while McAfee recorded the club's lone RBI.
UTA generated early traffic on the bases but was limited to one run on six hits, while Oklahoma finished with 11 hits in the contest.
