ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks fell to Air Force, 7–1, on Monday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Air Force opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run frame and added one in the second and two more in the third to build an early lead. UT Arlington settled in defensively through the middle innings and worked to chip away offensively.
The Mavericks broke through in the fifth as
Zach Evans led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error. After a sacrifice attempt,
Harold Laracuente lined an RBI single to right center to bring Evans home and put UTA on the board.
UTA finished with six hits on the afternoon, including a double from
Noah Fields. Laracuente recorded a multi-hit performance and drove in the Mavericks' lone run. The Mavericks placed runners on in several innings, drawing three walks and leaving nine on base.
PITCHING PROFILE
- Jacob Havern made the start for UTA, working 1 inning.
- Charlie Giese followed with 1.2 innings in relief.
- The Mavericks received a strong outing from Kyle Winkler, who delivered 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and keeping Air Force off the scoreboard through the middle frames.
- Merek Sears, Hayes Melville, and Jacob Gabler combined to finish the contest. Gabler worked a scoreless ninth to close out the afternoon.
