ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Sacramento State 8-6 on a walk-off two-run home run by
Preston Knott in the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Sacramento State jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 advantage. UTA cut into the deficit in the sixth when
Xander McAfee delivered an RBI single to make it 4-2, but the Hornets added two runs in the top of the ninth to extend their lead to 6-2.
The Mavericks then mounted a dramatic rally in the bottom of the ninth.
Hank Harp singled and
Caylon Dygert walked before
Clark Springs drove in Harp with an RBI single.
Harold Laracuente followed with an RBI double to score Dygert and cut the deficit to 6-4.
Noah Fields then delivered a two-RBI single to tie the game at 6-6 before Knott launched a walk-off home run to deep right field to give UTA the 8-6 victory.
UTA finished with 12 hits on the afternoon, with Laracuente, Fields, Melendez, Harp and Knott each recording multiple hits for the Mavericks.

Danny Valadez started and worked 2.2 innings, while
Merek Sears pitched 3.1 innings in relief.
