ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks dropped a midweek matchup to Baylor 5-2 on Tuesday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UTA (13-18, 2-1 WAC) struck early in the first inning when
Xavier Melendez launched a two-run home run to deep left field, scoring
Preston Knott and giving the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. The blast traveled 406 feet and marked Melendez's fourth home run of the season.
Baylor (19-13) answered in the second inning with a run and added another in the third to tie the game at 2-2. The Bears pulled ahead with a three-run fifth inning that proved to be the difference in the contest.
Melendez finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Knott and
Xander McAfee each recorded a hit. McAfee added a double in the loss. UTA was limited to six hits on the evening while Baylor collected seven.
