Biography
David McLeod enters his second year as the UT Arlington director of baseball operations in 2010-2011.
He is responsible for the off-the-field operation of the baseball office that includes recruiting information, scouting reports, video operations, scheduling, team travel, baseball camps, community outreach programs, equipment and apparel and other business aspects of the baseball office.
McLeod was a four-year letterman with the Mavericks from 2005-08. He was a .312 (169-for-541) career hitter with 107 runs scored, 36 doubles, five triples, one home run, 77 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 44 walks and only 35 strikeouts.
In 2008, McLeod led the NCAA in Toughest to Strikeout, as he tallied only five strikeouts in 200 at-bats. He was named honorable mention All-Southland Conference (first base) as a senior while batting .375 (75-for-200) with 49 runs, 18 doubles, three triples, 29 RBI, a .495 slugging percentage and seven stolen bases. He led the Southland Conference during the regular season with a .391 batting average.
As a senior, McLeod led the Mavs in four offensive categories, including at-bats (200), runs scored (49), base hits (75) and doubles (18). He never struck out more than once in a game, and he completed the entire home schedule at Clay Gould Ballpark without going down on strikes. In 26 home games, McLeod batted .411 (39-for-95) with 11 doubles, nine walks and zero strikeouts. He finished the regular season with only three strikeouts in 55 games.
During his junior season, McLeod struck out six times in 80 at-bats. In 2006, McLeod was the 14th toughest batter to strikeout in the NCAA Division I with 12 strikeouts in 214 at-bats. In 152 career games played in a Mavs uniform, McLeod recorded 541 at-bats and struck out only 35 times.
In 2006, McLeod helped lead the Mavericks to the NCAA Tournament with a Southland Conference Tournament championship. McLeod was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week (3/27/06) while batting .632 (12-for-19) in a four-game stretch during the season.
He came to UT Arlington following a prep career at Taylor High School, where he batted .463 with 10 doubles, seven home runs and 30 RBI as a senior. He was a second team All-State selection and was tabbed second team Houston Chronicle All-Conference. Was a four-sport athlete in high school also competing in cross country, football and basketball.
