Led UTA in scoring, field goals made (154), free throws made (58), assists and steals … in Sun Belt Conference games he ranked 2nd in league games in steals (2.3), 3rd in scoring (17.5) and assists (4.6), 4th in free-throw percentage (84.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1) and 5th in 3-pointers made (39) … 56 total steals for the year ranked as the 16th-most in the nation and were tied for the 12th-most in single-season program history; 2.24 steals-per-game average was the 17th-best in the country … seven thefts versus Little Rock (Jan. 22) were tied for the 6th-most by any player in the nation during the year … those seven steals were tied for the 3rd-most in single-game program history … led, or tied, UTA in scoring 13 times … reached double-figure points in 24 of 25 games he appeared in; bothered by a foot injury in limited minutes at Tulsa (Dec. 4) – the only game he did not score in double-figure points … six 3-pointers at Little Rock (Jan. 2) were tied for the most by any UTA player since the 2017-18 season ... season-best 31 points, tied for the 4th-most by any Sun Belt player in a conference game during the year, against Louisiana (Jan. 15) ... scored 16 of his 17 points at Arkansas (Dec. 2) in the 2nd half … scored 20+ points seven times … had six games of 5+ rebounds … 11 contests with at least three steals … led the team by averaging 30 minutes per game … made 24 starts.

NJCAA Division I First Team All-American … Region XIV Player of the Year … East Division First Team member … led the team and ranked 21st in the nation with 21.6 points per game … averaged 6 assists per outing to finish 23rd in the country in that category … also pulled down an impressive 5 rebounds per contest … shot a gaudy 46.5 percent from 3-point range for the year – the 17th-best rate in the nation … connected at an eye-opening 55.1 percent from the floor and went 81.4 percent from the free-throw line … had eight games of 30+ points – including six such contests in an eight-game stretch in January – which was accentuated by a high of 41 on Jan. 25 at Kilgore … collected three double-doubles on the campaign and had a triple-double with 38 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds on Jan. 29 against Trinity Valley … helped guide TJC to one of its best seasons in program history, posting a 25-3 record, Region XIV Regular Season Championship and finishing with a #11 national ranking.

Named Second Team All-Region … averaged 16.1 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds over 28 games … 450 total points off the bench were a team high … connected at a 54-percent clip from the floor, a 75-percent rate from the free throw line and shot 47.6 percent from 3-point range … one of those triples was a game-winner as he lifted TJC to a win over #24 Trinity Valley Community College in February of 2019.

HIGH SCHOOL
Amarillo Globe-News Super Team Player of the Year as a senior in 2017 after averaging 21.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game at the highest Class 6A level … made 48 percent of his 3-point attempts … produced 3.6 steals … scored a season-high 38 points during the playoffs … a multi-sport talent, he was also a member of Amarillo Tascosa’s track and field team, finishing 7th in the state his senior year in the long jump.

Born on Aug. 26, 1999 … son of Aesha and John Wells … one of four children … one cousin played in the WNBA: Briana Gilbreath; another cousin played professionally oversees: Stefanie Gilbreath … wears #13 because his grandmother grew up on 13th Street in Amarillo.
