Transferred to UTA from Georgia Tech following his freshman season in 2022-23 … can stretch the floor with his long-range shooting prowess, and boasts a wealth of international experience … chose Georgia Tech over Xavier and several other notable Big East programs … played sparingly with the Yellow Jackets, who employed an extremely minimal rotation.

Represented Latvia at the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championship, Division B, in Skopje, North Macedonia … averaged a team-high 17.3 points in only 22 minutes per game across seven contests (3-4 team record) … shot 44.3 percent from 3-point range, and made a tournament-high 27 triples … scored 41 points on 10-14 from beyond the arc in just 19 minutes of action in a 99-57 win against Albania on July 12; the 41 points were the 2nd-most all-time in any Latvian national team game, and the 10 3s represented the all-time Latvian single-game record … versus Finland on July 8, he scored 29 points on the strength of 8-13 from 3; at the time, those eight triples were the 2nd-most in Latvian history.

Attended Complejo Educativo Mas Camarena (more commonly known as Mas Camarena) while playing basketball in Spain … graduated International Baccalaurate … in 2021-22, he played for Valencia Basket Club team in Spain’s LEB Silver League … for two seasons prior to that he suited up for Valencia’s U18 team, averaging 8.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 22 minutes per outing.
PERSONAL
Born on Oct. 7, 2003 ... moved from Latvia to Valencia, Spain, at the age of 14 to attend school and better develop his game at one of the elite facilities in Europe … played for both the Latvian U18 and U16 teams, averaging 8.9 points and 1.4 rebounds in the 2019 FIBA U16 European Championship ... his father, Ainars, played professionally in Europe and for the Latvian National Team for two decades before going on to be the head coach of the national side from 2011-17 … Ainars is currently the head coach of CSO Voluntari in Romania ... he was previously the head coach of the Ukraine National Team from 2019-22; at the time he was just the second non-native Ukrainian to serve as the country's head coach (American Mike Fratello from 2011-14) … Freds learned his shooting aptitude from his father, who earned the nickname ‘The Golden Hand’ as a career 40 percent 3-point shooter and 90 percent free-throw maker, and is still the all-time leading scorer for the Latvian National Team.
