Biography
CAREER OVERVIEW
Hupstead, the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, is a 6-7 forward who spent the past two seasons at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where he appeared in 57 games.
2023-24
This past season was his best season, among the MEAC accolades, Hupstead led the Hawks in scoring with 13.3 points per game and 222 total rebounds for an average of 8.5 boards per game in 26 games, 25 of those were starts. Hupstead led the MEAC in rebounding while finishing eighth in scoring. He recorded seven double-doubles and six 20-point games on the season. Hupstead is the first UMES player to garner the Defensive Player of the Year award while also being the first major award recipient for the Hawks since the 2014-15 season.
2022-23
During his first campaign in Princess Anne, Hupstead appeared in 31 games off the bench for the Hawks where he averaged 5.1 points and ranked fourth on the team hauling in 3.0 rebounds per game as a reserve. He carried a .517 field goal percentage, the best among all Hawks with 20+ FG attempts. Led the Hawks in scoring at Duke on Dec. 10.
2021-22
Prior to his time in Maryland, Hupstead spent his freshman season at Panola College where he played in 32 games, making 19 starts. He averaged 11.8 points and 8.9 boards per game. Hupstead scored double-digit points in 20 of his 32 appearances which included five 20+ point outbursts while hauling in double-digit rebounds in 11 contests.
HIGH SCHOOL
A native of Mount Vernon, New York, Hupstead attended Mount Vernon High School where he was a three-year starter on the basketball team.
