Juan Ramirez Achury joined the UT Arlington tennis coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2023.
Ramirez Achury comes to UTA from University of North Texas, where he spent two years as the volunteer women’s assistant coach. He also acted as tournament director for the ITA Summer Circuit, which included over 100 athletes.
Before Ramirez Achury’s time at UNT, he spent one season as head coach for the men’s and women’s teams at his alma mater, Southwestern College. At Southwestern, he helped the women’s team earn a conference championship and an appearance in the NAIA tournament. The team was also nationally ranked.
Outside of UNT and Southwestern, Ramirez Achury served as a racket pro at Denton Country Club, a graduate assistant at Tabor College and a Nike Sports Camp Counselor at Princeton University and UNT.
Ramirez Achury, a native of Bogota, Colombia, graduated from Southwestern College in 2020, where he earned a bachelor’s in sports management with minors in business administration and psychology. He was a three-time ITA scholar athlete and a member of the only conference championship men’s tennis team in the program’s history in 2019.
