Charlotte Morgan, head coach of the Cleveland Comets in the National Pro Fastpitch League, joined the UTA coaching staff in September of 2017.
Morgan was instrumental in the success of a 30-win team in her first season and pitcher Randi Phillips being named to the Sun Belt All-Conference teams as a freshman.
WIth her guidance, the three-person rotation was able to pave the way to a top-four finish in the league, a NISC Regional Championship, as well as a record setter in the circle in Phillips. Phillips would toss a no-hitter against Georgia State - a perineal offensive power in the league, while helping pick up wins against nationally ranked Texas State, Louisiana and Oklahoma State of the Big 12.
"I am excited to have coach Morgan join our staff and the Maverick family," UTA coach Peejay Brun said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and her competitiveness will be a great example for the pitching staff."
Morgan, a native of Moreno Valley, Calif., joined the Mavericks with six years of coaching experience in the collegiate level to go with a wealth of knowledge both in the professional game as a coach and a player. Morgan graduated from the University of Alabama in 2010 and was a two-time SEC Player of the Year to go with three NFCA All-American selections for the Crimson Tide.
"I'm really excited for this opportunity," Morgan said. "When I got the chance to talk to Peejay and come down and see the facilities and meet everyone in the athletic department I was able to see the vision and passion that everyone has for the University, and it felt right. I'm excited to help bring this program to new levels and be along with Peejay and I am thankful for the opportunity."
At Alabama, Morgan was a Senior Lowe's Class Award Winner in 2010, a three-time selection to the All-SEC teams and two-time finalists for the USA Softball Player of the Year Award to go with several accolades.
She was drafted first overall in the 2010 NPF Collegiate Senior Draft by the USSSA Pride in Kissimmee, Fla. where she would would be named All-NPF in her rookie season. Morgan departed Florida for the Akron Racers in 2003 and would played two seasons with the Racers, being named to the all-league squad once again in 2013.
Morgan's coaching career aligned with the start of her professional playing career, getting her beginnings as an assistant coach at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fla. In between time on the diamond, she helped analyze the action for ESPN from 2011 through 2013 as a commentator for the SEC and as an in-studio analyst.
She returned to the collegiate ranks as an assistant pitching coach with the University of Maryland in 2011 where she would remain through the 2013 season.
She spent two seasons with Georgia Tech University in Atlanta from 2013-2015 before heading to Stillwater, Okla. In 2015 to be the Assistant Pitching Coach for Oklahoma State.
